Black Savior is a master copy of Caravaggio’s David with the Head of Goliath but instead depicts two black women, one cutting the other’s hair. Straying from the original violent narrative, this painting depicts a more hopeful relationship. With her hair gone and no longer blocking her view, the black woman can see more clearly. This painting is made to remind black women to support one another so that they may be able to cut things out of their lives that keep them from seeing reality.
