Prince of Darkness depicts the relationship between Black American music and the pains of oppression. By choosing iconic jazz musician, Miles Davis as the main subject, this piece shows how jazz played a role in liberating black people from the dark side of America. As his figure sits in the center of darkness, his music offers light that will guide others to a brighter future. Further inspired by Quincy Troupe’s novel Miles and Me, elements of his research played a large role in creating this work of art.
