For black women, one of the most common feelings that come with intersectionality is feeling hyper-invisible. Being the only black woman in a room is a common occurrence at a predominately white institution, and so while hyper-visible is a common feeling, the lack of representation makes one feel hyper-invisible at the same time. Hyper-invisible explores this paradox with intersecting designs that envelope the skin making the figure seem invisible. The clothes and hair - both materialistic items - can be seen through the white gaze, which watches to see if the materials meet European beauty standards.
